A Seaside Haven in Lancashire

By Nigel Clarkson 10th Feb 2024 - Resident of Lytham St Annes

An Introduction to Lytham St Annes

Nestled in the North West of Lancashire, England, Lytham St Annes stands proudly on the Fylde coast, a place I was born in the old St Annes Hospital.

I sometimes never realise how lucky we are, liveing in a place known for its sandy beaches, Victorian architecture, and vibrant town centres.

With approximately 35,000 residents, this joint town, historically part of Lancashire and situated at the mouth of the River Ribble

It has been featured as one of the top 10 places to live in the UK and no wonder, it certainly has a unique charm, offering a peaceful getaway with a wealth of experiences for its visitors. That's why I love it here!

Exploring the Twin Towns
Lytham and St Annes

Lytham St Annes, though often recognized as a single entity, comprises two individual towns, each with its distinct appeal and attractions that were twinned together.

Lytham: Echoing Historical Elegance

Lytham, the easterly town, extends a warm welcome with its Grade I listed country house, Lytham Hall. Set amid expansive, well-manicured gardens, this public treasure epitomizes historical allure and architectural brilliance.

Meanwhile, the notable Lytham Windmill, also a Grade I listed building, graces Lytham Green, offering picturesque views over the River Ribble. Lots of great restaurants too!

Ansdell & Fairhaven: In the middle

It has its railway station and a good variety of shops up and down Woodlands Road.

It is well known for Fairhaven Lake which has many amenities dotted around the lake, plus plenty of Car Parking and the latest addition a stepped sea wall to take in some sea air. Make sure to visit the RSPB Fairhaven Visitor Centre.

Granny's Bay near the White Church is a favourite starting place to park up and walk to either Lytham or St. Annes.

St Annes: Tranquil Beaches and Vibrant Life

Venture northwestward to St Annes, where the St Annes Pier, (established in 1885) presents a tranquil space to absorb scenic views and embrace the calming sea breezes.

We often explore the golden sands that run over 1 mile out at low tide and wander along the shoreline. There are lots of things to do for the kids along St Annes promenade including hiring out a Beach Hut. Plus plenty of shops and cafes in St. Annes Square along with Ashton Gardens.
